About Barbara

Barbara Kamena and Family     I live in Alta Loma with my husband and three children. I am running for School Board because I have seen the district loose sight of what is truly important….the educational success of ALL of its students. I am an ordinary parent with a passion for helping children. I want all children to be able to learn and thrive in a safe environment. I also desire to see parents take an active and meaningful role on their child’s educational plan. Parents may not be professional educators, but they are the experts on their children. I believe that extraordinary things can happen as a result of ordinary people working together.

I support: Maximizing education dollars in the classrooms- Empowering parents to advocate for their children- Accountability- Strong collaborative partnerships between parents and the school- Transparency in the administration and oversight of our schools- Implementation of innovative teaching methodologies- Elimination of the barriers and obstacles that inhibit parent involvement- Early intervention- An effective “No Bullying” policy and program.

Teachers and Classified employees have a union to protect them and fight for them. Students do not. They can not protect or fight for their education themselves. I want to be a voice and a vote for our students. I also would like to encourage other parents to get involved and run for School Board Members in the future. As of right now, none of our board members have children under 18. Their decisions impact the lives of our children.
